Scholarship Program for Higher studies

The Department of Education (DoE) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) oversees the education and welfare of over 22,000 Tibetan students in 72 schools in India and Nepal. Every year around 1200 Tibetan students complete Senior Secondary Schools (Class XII) and thereafter opt for higher studies in various colleges and universities in India. Keeping in mind the present and future human resource need of CTA and Tibetan communities viz. scholars, researchers and professionals, the Department of Education CTA has taken initiative in providing scholarships for various university degrees, professional and research courses. The scholarships are mostly awarded on merit basis. However, a part of scholarship fund is also reserved for the economically disadvantaged students.

The need for the scholarship and financial assistance to higher study is very high and demanding. Hence the DOE is struggling hard to raise fund for scholarship from various supporters all round the world. Contribution of US $ 1000 per child per year is needed to support one student to pursue higher education. We have also launch Scholarship Endowment Fund, where a group or association/ individual can make onetime contributions of US $ 10,000/ towards scholarship for one Tibetan student to pursue higher education. It is envisaged that the interest accrued from the above mentioned amount will comfortably provide scholarship for one student for higher studies.

Whenever the Department of Education receives scholarship offer from overseas colleges and universities, announcement are made through official newspapers, websites and journals. The announcements are also been sent to all the Tibetan settlements and schools spread throughout India, Nepal and Bhutan for information of all.

The DoE scholarship Committee is the main decision making body for all the scholarship programs undertaken by this Department. All the decisions are made as per DoE scholarship rules and regulation.

Sponsorship Program

The Department of Education of CTA firmly believes that every Tibetan child living in exile should receive basic education in schools. As highlighted in the Tibetan charter, our ultimate aim is to provide free education up to grade 12.At present, each family is encouraged to pay required boarding fees, but many are unable to do so due to financial difficulty. In 1975 the sponsorship program was established by the DoE to enable sympathetic individuals and agencies to assist our school-aged children to attain an education. With this support, the Tibetan education movement has continued to progress with each passing year, for which we are deeply grateful. We accept donation of US $ 30 per month per child (one time annual donation of US $ 360) for providing basic amenities. The department also provide pocket money and travelling allowance to the needy students during winter break. The section also deals with school admission of CTA staff children.
