‘Mobile Science Exhibition’, a project funded by US Embassy, New Delhi and supported by Department of Education, CTA kicked off at Upper TCV School on October 7, 2012. The exhibition provides children and science teachers with an opportunity to witness interesting working models in science that explains basic scientific concepts in a fun and counter-intuitive way. Most of the exhibits were developed by the students of Upper TCV School under the mentorship of project leader Mr Gyaltsen and science teachers Mr Tenzin Jamyang, Mr Tenzin Ngodup and Ms. Dikyi Dolkar.

Prof. Ronald Vale from United States was the Chief Guest for the inaugural exhibition at Upper TCV School. He is the Vice Chair of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, University of California. Prof. Ronald is one of the three scientists who received the prestigious 2012 Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research. The award is sometimes referred to as ‘American Nobel’ because many recipients in the past have subsequently won Nobel Prize. Mr Ngodup Tsering, the Secretary of the Department of Education and Mr. Thupten Dorji, the General Secretary of TCV School also graced the occasion.

According to Mr Gyaltsen, the primary aim of the project is to enhance children’s interest in science and inspire the science teachers to incorporate hands-on/activity-based learning in their classrooms. Children who participated in the event had an interactive session with Prof. Ronald Vale. He shared his personal story and entertained questions from the students. A group of class VIII students also performed a Science Role play on plant and animal cell during the exhibition.

The Mobile Science Exhibition will tour six Tibetan schools in Dharamsala region (Lower TCV School, Petoen School, TCV Gopalpur, TCV Chauntra, STS Chauntra and TCV Suja) in the upcoming weeks.
