Dharamshala: As part of the inspection visits to Tibetan schools in and around Dharamshala, Kalon (minister) Tharlam Dolma Changra of the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, visited Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School and Sambhota Tibetan School (STS) in Chauntra today on 18 April 2024.
Education Kalon was accorded a warm welcome reception upon her arrival at TCV Chauntra by Principal Passang Tsering, Assistant Headmaster Tenzin Dhondup, teachers, students and staff. A hearty welcome was also extended to Kalon during her official visit by Bir Tibetan Society Settlement Officer Karma Namgyal, Bir Dege Settlement Officer Kunchok Lhamo, Bir Dege Local Assembly Chairman Tsering Dorjee, Chauntra Nangchen Settlement Meri Kyap and representatives from branch office Tibetan Women’s Association and Rangzen Tsogchung, among others.
Following a thorough assessment of the school’s facilities, including homes, hostels, Special Needs School, library and dispensary, the Kalon convened teachers in the school’s prayer room and addressed them on the importance of teachers’ duties and responsibilities in the classroom.
In her keynote speech for students at the school’s hall, Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra advised students to be studious and assume responsibility as future seeds of Tibet while urging the gathering to constantly recall the benevolent contributions of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in providing education opportunities. The Kalon further encouraged students to consult school counsellors and set future goals as early as from the seventh grade.
Later in the afternoon, Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra visited STS Chauntra to inspect the school premises and facilities. Kalon spoke to the teachers and highlighted the important role that elementary and primary teachers play in students’ lives.
