Tibetan Language Workshop for Primary Teachers of Sambhota Schools Concludes

Dharamshala: The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, concluded a 12-day Tibetan Language workshop for primary

teachers at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies (CHTS), Sarah, on 12 May 2024.

The closing ceremony was attended by Additional Secretary Tenzin Pema from the Education Department, Principal of CHTS Passang Tsering, and the workshop’s trainer, Palden Namgyal.  

In his introductory remarks, the training facilitator, Ngodup Tenpa from the Education Department, restated the workshop’s objectives, the fund source, and the daily programs of the workshop. He also briefly reported on the progress of the participant’s engagement during the training sessions.

Similarly, the workshop’s trainer, Palden Namgyal, said that since Tibetan is the principal language for primary classes in Tibetan schools, the department organised workshops for primary teachers to enhance their proficiency in the Tibetan language and improve the language skills of their students. 

Principal Passang Tsering (CHTS) addressed the heavy restrictions on Tibetan language learning in Tibet and the Chinese government’s attempts to influence the perspective of the Tibetan people. Moreover, he urged the teachers to utilise their service to preserve and promote the Tibetan language and other traditional disciplines and cultures with pure dedication and blend moral values with education.

The chief guest, in her speech, expressed her concern over the repressive Chinese policies on the Tibetan language. She further emphasised the significance of the Tibetan language and its impact on the Tibetan identity. She also highlighted the  struggles of Tibetans in Tibet, who risk their lives to preserve and promote the language and urged the training attendees to uphold their responsibilities with a courageous heart.    

In the end, the training facilitator, Ngodup Tenpa, addressed his closing remarks to all the attendees, including the teachers who participated in the workshop and others who assisted it.
