The Department of Education, CTA, is pleased to announce that Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan is offering scholarships for three Tibetan refugee students to pursue a two-year master’s program at their institution. This scholarship will cover tuition fees, accommodation and round-trip travel expenses. The scholarship opportunity will be open for the academic years 2027 to 2029, for the following master’s program courses:
- 1) Master’s Program in Management Science
- 2) Master’s Program in Information and Computer Science
(All the courses will be conducted in English, except for the Japanese language class)
Eligibility and Required Documents:
- The applicant and their parents must be a Tibetan refugee holding a Green Book (GB) with contributions paid until the March 2026. Form A must be duly filled and attested by local Tibetan Settlement Officer.
- The applicant must have secured a minimum aggregate percentage of 50% in their undergraduate degree from a recognized university in any field of study and must have graduated in 2023 or later. (The graduation year will be considered according to the result/mark-sheet declaration date, not the date of issuance of the Degree Certificate).
- Applicants must have a valid Registration Certificate (RC) and valid Identity Certificate (IC)/ Certificate of Identity (COI) or the payment receipt for newly applied/ for extension. Applicants who are renewing or applying for a new COI must obtain it by the end of December 2026 and are personally responsible for meeting this requirement.
- Applicants are required to compile the following documents into a single PDF, in the specified order
- Resume with passport photo. (One page)
- An essay on ‘Why you are applying for this scholarship?’ (400 to 500 words typed – A4 size)
- Japanese Language Certificate (if available)
- No Objection Certificate (for employed applicants).
Preliminary Selection Procedure:
- An initial selection process comprising an online interview will be conducted for all eligible applicants on July 3, 2026.
- The top five highest scoring candidates will be preliminarily shortlisted. The marking system out of 100 is as follows:
- Preliminary Interview: 50 Points
- Undergraduate academic performance: 25 Points. *
- Japanese Language Certificate: 25 points. *
- The five shortlisted candidates will undergo a final online interview by the Chiba Institute of Technology (CIT). The interview schedule will be communicated via email.
