Department of Education Congratulates Ngawang Lhadon on Receiving Gold Medal in Physical Education from Delhi University

Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration, proudly congratulates Ngawang Lhadon, a DoE Scholarship recipient, for securing the top position in her class in the Bachelor of Physical Education program at Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences (IGIPESS), Delhi University. In recognition of her outstanding academic performance, she was awarded a Gold Medal at the 101st Annual Convocation of the University of Delhi on 22 February 2025, by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of India.

Hailing from a semi-nomadic family in Sonamling Settlement, Ladakh, Ngawang began her education at TCV School Ladakh and later completed her higher secondary education in the science stream at TCV Bylakuppe. With strong support from her family, she pursued a career in physical education, earning a Bachelor of Physical Education and Sport (BPES) from HVPM Amravati, followed by a Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) from IGIPESS, Delhi University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Physical Education (MPEd) at the same institution.

Beyond academics, Ngawang has excelled in sports, representing Tibet as a member of the Tibetan Women’s National Soccer Team and competing in the 2022 CONIFA Women’s World Cup.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ngawang shared:

“Receiving a gold medal in physical education might seem unusual to many due to the misconception that it is merely about playing sports. In reality, it is a comprehensive study of the human body, deeply rooted in scientific principles. This medal represents more than academic success—it embodies resilience, perseverance, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to my dreams. I dedicate this achievement to His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision of seeing Tibetan youth excel in diverse fields.”

She also highlighted the underrepresentation of Tibetans in sports sciences, which motivated her to bridge this gap and contribute to enhancing health and fitness awareness within the Tibetan community.

To young Tibetans pursuing higher education, Ngawang encourages them to follow their passions, even if they diverge from conventional expectations:

“Excellence flourishes where passion meets purpose. It is not solely measured by grades or credentials but by your ability to apply knowledge in ways that uplift others. Whatever field you choose, approach it with diligence, integrity, and the determination to leave it better than you found it.”

Ngawang expresses her heartfelt gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration for their unwavering support in making this journey possible.

The Department of Education extends its best wishes to Ngawang Lhadon for continued success and many more achievements in the future.
