Andhra Pradesh: Education Kalon (Minister), Tharlam Dolma Changra, along with Additional Secretary Tenzin Pema, attended the National Leadership Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in School Education, which was held from January 19 to 21, 2024, at Agastya’s Creativity Campus in Andhra Pradesh, upon receiving an invitation from the Agastya International Foundation.

The conference mainly focused on themes related to AI in school education, including demystifying AI, AI’s role in future pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments, and AI’s influence on Social and Emotional Learning. A total of 20 officials representing education departments from the eleven Indian states took part in a panel discussion on various topics revolving around the above-mentioned themes.

The Tibetan representatives expressed concerns about the impact of AI on students and teachers, as well as on school education at large. The Education Kalon shared Tibetan ways of educating children based on the Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in exile, and through Secular Ethics and SEE Learning, they are trying to infuse basic human values in children. This will empower children to use their intelligence for the benefit of themselves and others. The Education Kalon stressed that imparting a balanced education of heart and mind is crucial, as it would help future generations use human intelligence as well as artificial intelligence for the benefit of all without misuse or abuse.

The CTA’s Department of Education is connected to the Agastya International Foundation through various projects related to teaching Science and Math in Tibetan schools. The programme was funded by the Infosys Foundation.
