The Department of Education, CTA has organized two batches of in-service trainings for math teachers at National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. The first batch of the training was attended by 16 math teachers which was concluded on May 14, 2015. The training for the second batch was started on May 15, 2015 and will conclude on June 4, 2015. The participants for the second batch were from the school administration of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS), Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) and Tibetan Homes Foundation (THF). The total number of math teachers who has attended for the second batch was 13.
The main objectives of organizing the in-service training were: i) To enhance the teachers’ pedagogical skill in teaching of math. ii) Children should see mathematics as something to talk about, to communicate, to discuss among them, to work together on. iii) There should be a shift in focus from mathematics content to mathematical learning environment. iv) To provide a platform to remove doubts and problems faced by teachers in their day to day classroom teaching.
The Department of Education expects that the teachers would make math as a part of children’s life experience which is the best mathematics education possible.
The workshop is being funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (Canada).
