TORONTO: After his successful visit to Ottawa to garner support from the Canadian Government to strengthen and enhance educational opportunities for Tibetan children in India and Nepal, Kalon Ngodup Tsering visited the Tibetan community in Montreal and Toronto.

On 5 March, Kalon Ngodup Tsering was welcomed by the President of the Tibetan Cultural Society, Quebec and Ngawang Yonten from the Office of Tibet in Montreal. The Tibetan community in Montreal is one of the smaller communities in Montreal with a population of about 140 people. Kalon Ngodup Tsering addressed a small group of people about the purpose of his visit to Ottawa, various ongoing and new programmes and activities of the Education Department including improving reading habit, training for primary teacher and scholarship for college student. He also touched upon the Middle Way Policy by encouraging people to learn what are the basic demands in its memorandum.

On his arrival in Toronto on 6 March, Kalon Ngodup Tsering was welcomed at the airport by the President of Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario (CTAO), Tsering Tsomo and board member Tenzin Khedup, followed by taking a site-tour of Ganjong Chondenling Tibetan Community Center. The president of the CTAO explained in detail about the background and the current status of the Center. The board members were very happy to have an opportunity to discuss various local issue at the informal dinner meeting with Kalon.

On 7 March, Kalon Ngodup Tsering met with the board members of Tibetan Children’s Project Canada, and Tibetan NGOs for an hour each. He was very impressed about the productive discussion on education of the Tibetan children in Indian and Nepal. Most of the participants promised to work on various means to fund scholarship and sponsorship.

In the afternoon, Kalon gave a talk to a group of about 300 Tibetan people in Toronto, and also answered various questions raised by the public.

In the end of his visit, nearly 30 former public servants of Gaden Phodrang and Central Tibetan Administration in Toronto hosted a dinner reception for Kalon Ngodup Tsering at Tibet Kitchen to honour his exemplary service and returning back to Dharamsala to work after his retirement. He thanked each one of them for the honour, and said that it will only make him more encouraged.
