DHARAMSALA: The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) had organized one day workshop at Nyatri Hall on 27th of this month. The Program was attended by 90 parents whose children are Studying in Petoen School. Kalon,and Secretary, of Department of Education, Petoen School Principal and Headmistress were invited for this program. Honorable Kalon of Department of Education, Mr.Ngodup Tsering was the chief guest and he addressed the parental gathering with his inaugural key note speech on how to improve , inculcate reading habits and he also emphasized the parents need to communicate in Tibetan language with their children . The objective of the workshop is to improve Parent’s involvement in children’s education and strengthen parent -teacher association.
The workshop was led by Miss Tenzin Yankey, Monitoring and Evaluation Director, The Tibet fund; with Group discussion method and tried to find out parents current practice in early child reading. The need -assessment will help in making the content and delivery of the workshop appropriate to the needs and demands of the parents.
She displayed power point presentation on the topics namely 1) process of reading, 2) How can children learn to read best 3) benefits of Reading. The parents took an active participation and clarified their doubts by asking questions.
The afternoon session was initiated by Miss.Dukten Kyi from Lha Tsokpa who interacted with parents on importance of reading, Editorial Task and Enhancement of parents -child Relationship. This Program is funded by USAID through The Tibet Fund .Free children’s story book was distributed by Rogpa Charitable Trust and The book was displayed and Exhibition by Library of Tibetan Work and Archive.
She has visited 10 different Tibetan Settlements to improve reading skills of their children and create a community of readers.

The workshop was successfully concluded with storytelling by Parents and collection of feedback from the participants for necessary follow up.
