10th Annual Conference of Education Council and Advisory Committee Convenes in Dharamshala

Dharamshala: The annual 10th conference of the Education Council and Advisory Committee was held for two days in Dharamshala at the Kashag Secretariat.

Given the essentiality of imparting traditional education to the newer generations for future leadership, the Chair of the Education Council, Geshe Lhakdor, highlighted the indispensability of the traditional view-meditation-conduct education system along with the instruction of dialectic (Riglam) in schools to better students’ reasoning and logic in his opening address. 

At the same time, Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra assured the provision of workshops and training from the Education Department to improve education standards in Tibetan schools. She also stressed good virtue and moral conduct as essential features of traditional Tibetan education that are gradually deteriorating in the Tibetan community.

Sikyong Penpa Tsering emphasised the preparation of accurate statistical data of school students for drafting plans for the future. Furthermore, to enhance the efficiency of the Education Council and Advisory Committee, he recommended the committee to prepare a proper regulation for its functioning and suggested holding two conferences in a year. Before concluding, he tabled the necessity of better facilities and standard teachers for the continued existence of TCV Selakui school.

The meeting was presided by Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Education Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra, and the Chair of Education Council, Geshe Lhakdor. Secretary Jigme Namgyal from the Department of Education (DoE) and the other members of the Education Council and Advisory Committee, namely Additional Secretary Tenzin Pema (DoE), Additional Secretary Tenzin Dorjee (DoE), Education Director Ven. Tenzin Tsenlek alias Druk Tsering (TCV), Education Director Dr. Passang Tsering (THS Mussoorie), Director Tsering Dhondup (STSS), Education Officer Tenzin Rabgyal (Snowlion Foundation), Professor Ven. Lhakpa Tsering (CIHTS, Varanasi), Professor Sonam Gyaltsen (CHTS, Sarah) and Principal Nyima Dhondup (Palkhang Academy) were also present during the two-day conference.

The conference held was funded by DANIDA.
