Tibetan Pre-Primary Teachers Receive Workshop on Early Childhood Care

Dharamshala: The Department of Education and Department of Home jointly organised a training of trainers workshop for Pre-primary teachers (PPRT) on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) at Sakya Guest House in Bylakuppe from 14 – 18 March 2023. 

The ongoing workshop attended by 14 PPRTs, is aimed at equipping trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality Early childhood Care and Education. The participating Creches are from Doeguling settlement, Mundgod (3), Lugsung Samdrupling, Bylakuppe (3), Dekyi Larsoe Settlement, Bylakuppe (1), Dhondenling settlement, Kollegal (3), Rabgyeling settlement, Hunsur (1), Chopheling settlement, Miao (1), Dhargyeling settlement, Tezu (1) and Tenzingang settlement (1). 

After receiving training on ECCE, the PPRTs will train, guide and mentor the caregivers of the settlement’s Crèches so that staff can implement appropriate activities that enhance children’s overall development, such as cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. They can also provide guidance on the use of appropriate methodologies, creating a safe and stimulating learning environment.

The opening ceremony of the workshop was attended by Principals and Head Teachers of STS Bylakuupe and STS CVP along with officiating Settlement Officers of Lugsung Samdrupling and Dekyi Larsoe settlements as the main guests. 

Jamyang Wangyal, a Counselor and Coordinator of the ECCE program highlighted the importance of ECCE to ensure the overall development of the children. He also thanked USAID for funding the project. 

The former Director of Norling Creche, Tenzin Dekyi gave a talk on the topics she will cover during the five-day training. 

The ongoing workshop will cover various topics related to ECCE, including the importance of quality ECCE, the absorbent mind, the sensitivity period, child development, elements for smooth function of the daycare center, daycare activities, recreating daily activities, rhymes and songs for infants, classification of toys and how to use them, art & crafts for young children, and maintaining portfolio for each child, etc. 

Tenzin Chokden and Ngawang Choedhen are the dealing staff from Department of Home.
