6th CTA Level Science, Mathematics, and Environment Exhibition – 2023 Held at TCV School Selakui

The Department of Education, CTA successfully organized the 6th CTA Level Science, Mathematics, and Environment Exhibition–2023 at TCV School Selakui from 13th to 16th July 2023. The exhibition aimed to encourage and foster scientific temper among the children where they had the opportunity to showcase their talents in science and mathematics, exploring practical applications in various aspects of everyday life while recognizing their role in overcoming challenges. The exhibition featured seven sub-themes under the main theme “TECHNOLOGY AND TOYS”.

Earlier 19 secondary and senior secondary Tibetan schools submitted a total of 108 exhibits to the DoE. A three-judge panel appointed by the DoE evaluated the exhibits based on the guidelines provided by NCERT and selected 40 exhibits from 17 schools (3 TCV schools, 2 THF schools, and 12 STSS schools) to be displayed at the exhibition. Along with these, 10 additional exhibits were also displayed by the host school which consists of some robotics. Each exhibit had a student representative and an escort teacher from their respective schools.

The inaugural program on 13th July was graced by Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, Head of the Academic Section, DoE as the chief guest. Mr. Tsering Gongpo, Headmaster of TCV Selakui delivered the welcome address, while Mr. Dorjee Wangdue, Science Education Officer of DoE provided an overview of the exhibition’s objectives, historical development, and the department’s role in organizing the CTA level exhibition. Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, in his speech, emphasized the importance of science education and the need to put more effort into science and mathematics teaching at the school level. He also introduced the panel of judges for the exhibition to the students and honoured them with the traditional ceremonial scarf.

The opening program was followed by a seminar on “Scientific Innovations for a Sustainable Future” which was facilitated by the judges Dr. Tenzin Passang, Director, Drepung Losel Ling Mediation and Science Center, Dr. Kalsang Tharpa, Researcher, Shell Technology Center Bangalore, and Dr. Tenzin Nyibum, Assistant Professor of Zoology, Gargi College, University of Delhi. The seminar served as an intellectual platform, enabling participants to delve deeper into the challenges and gain insightful perspectives into the scope of research matters.

On the afternoon of 13th July, the exhibits were evaluated by the panel of judges, with 15 exceptional entries selected for submission to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to be considered for participation in the 50th Rashtriya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani 2023 to be held later in the year.

On 14th July, the exhibition was formally inaugurated for public viewing by Prof. Durgesh Pant, Director General, Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology, accompanied by Dr. Piyush Joshi, Senior Scientific Officer/In-charge of Regional Science Centre, Dehradun. Students from TCV Selakui, STS Herbertpur, THS Rajpur, and neighbouring monastic schools, along with curious visitors, explored the exhibits over the next two days. Additionally, a Mobile Science Van was arranged by the Department at the exhibition venue and STS Herbertpur during the exhibition. The students from these schools actively participated in explaining scientific concepts, which has been a valuable learning experience for them.

On the afternoon of 16th July, at the closing program, four student exhibitors introduced their respective school zones and shared their feedback on the exhibition. Mr. Tsultrim Kalsang, Principal, TCV School Selakui distributed certificates to the participants and gave his concluding remarks on the exhibition. Mr. Dorjee Wangdue, Science Education Officer expressed gratitude to all involved, particularly the venue school for hosting the exhibition. Ms. Tsering Yangkyi, Section Officer of DoE accompanied the science education officer in coordinating the exhibition.
