Dharamshala: A delegation of Canadian diplomats comprising Stefanie Bergeron and Colin Wetmore, the First Secretary (Political Affairs) for the High Commission of Canada to India, embarked on a two-day visit to Dharamsala on 28th -29th June 2023.
During their visit, the delegation received an audience with the His Holiness the Dalai Lama and met with the representatives of the concerned offices of CTA. They also had a meeting with the senior officers from the Department of Education, led by Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra and Secretary Jigmey Namgyal. The visiting delegation was given a comprehensive update on the progress and recent developments of a significant project that has been undertaken with the funding of Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The presentations highlighted the achievements, future prospects of the initiative, and its significant milestones contributing to the overall development of the Tibetan education system in India.
Thereafter, the delegation visited the STS Petoen School and was warmly welcomed by Director Tsering Dhondup, Deputy Director Tenzin Nagdon, Principal Lekshey Nima, headmistress Tenzin Choedon along with the staff and students of the school. They visited the classrooms, Library, and counselling cell and interacted with students from Classes VIII to X.
In addition to that, the delegation met with Kalon Norzin Dolma of the Department of Information and International Relations, the dealing officers of SARD, Tibet Policy Institute, and Dharamshala-based civil society organisations such as TCHRD and Tibetan Youth Congress.
