Dharamshala: Counsellor Jamyang Wangyal (from 5-22 November, 2023) and Counsellor Tenzin Choedhen (from 5-10 November 2023) of the Department of Education, CTA embarked on Guidance and Counselling tour to various schools. The schools included STS Herbertpur, STS Mussoorie, THF Mussoorie, THF Rajpur, THF Dekyiling, TNMF Schools, STS Shimla and STS Dholanji.
The primary aim of this tour was to inspire students from classes VIII to XII to envision and pursue meaningful life goals. The counsellors conducted engaging sessions on critical life skills, covering topics such as self-esteem, communication prowess, fostering a positive attitude, and the art of effective teamwork.
The sessions were not just theoretical; they evolved into interactive forums where students were divided into groups to discuss and present their insights. This approach allowed for practical skill development, honing their abilities in communication, collaboration, and public speaking.
Beyond individual empowerment, the counsellors extended their purview to address a pressing concern—Child Sexual Abuse. Through the sessions, they raised awareness among foster parents, teachers, and staff on the nuances of this issue and the protective measures outlined in the POCSO Act 2012.
Recognising the integral role of parents in a child’s educational journey, the counsellor conducted parental counselling sessions at STS Herbertpur and TNMF School. These sessions sought to strengthen the collaborative relationship between parents and schools, fostering an environment conducive to a child’s holistic growth.
The outcomes of this school tour were profound. Students expressed not only enjoyment but a tangible sense of enrichment. The practical, interactive nature of the sessions left a mark on their personal and interpersonal skills. The awareness on Child Sexual Abuse contributed to creating a safer and more informed educational environment.
