Korea-Tibet Buddhist Scholarship Association Scholarship – 2027

Dharamshala: The Department of Education, CTA, is pleased to announce that the Korea-Tibet Buddhist Scholarship Association in South Korea is offering scholarships to either two male or two female Tibetan refugee students for an undergraduate program at Dongguk University in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, for 2027 admission.

The Department of Education (DoE) will conduct a preliminary selection process to shortlist six applicants. These six applicants will then appear for the TOPIK Level 1 exam. Two students of the same gender will be selected: the student with the highest TOPIK score will determine the gender, and the next highest-scoring student of the same gender will be selected as the second candidate. The selected students are expected to arrive in Korea in February 2027.

Preliminary Selection Process

After the application deadline, the preliminary selection process will proceed as follows:

A general written examination in Tibetan and English will be conducted on June 10, 2026, at the respective Tibetan Settlement Offices. The test will carry a total of 100%, with 50% allocated to the Tibetan section and 50% marks to the English section. The 10 students with the highest scores in the written examination will advance to the next stage, which consists of an online interview to be held on June 17, 2026.

Scholarship Selection Timeline

June–July 2026

  • Shortlisting of six students.
  • The six shortlisted students must register for the October TOPIK Level 1 exam.

October 2026

  • TOPIK examTOPIK exam

December 2026

  • Announcement of TOPIK exam results
  • Final selection of two candidates.

December 2026-February 2027

  • Documentation process for VISA

February–March 2027

  • Selected students travel to Korea and begin their program.
Scholarship Coverage
  • The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and dormitory costs. However, selected candidates will have to bear the airfare.

Eligibility and Required Documents
  1. The applicant must be a Tibetan refugee holding a Green Book (GB) with contributions made until March 2026. Form A must be duly filled and attested by the local Tibetan Settlement Officer. 
  2. The applicant must have secured a minimum aggregate of 70% in Class XII and must have graduated in 2025 or 2026.
  3. The applicant must possess a valid Registration Certificate (RC) and a valid Certificate of Identity (COI)/Identity Certificate (IC). 
  4. Candidates are responsible for submitting a valid IC/COI by December 2026. Failure to do so will result in the withdrawal of their candidature, and the next candidate will be considered.
  5. Applicants are required to compile the following documents into a single PDF in the specified order: 
  6. Resume with passport-sized photo (One page). 
  7. An essay of 400 to 500 words (A4 size – typed) on the topic: “Why you are applying for this scholarship?”
