Mr. Ngodup Tsering, Education Kalon, CTA, left for Dehradun on 25th October, 2014. He was received by the Dickyiling Tibetan Settlement Officer, and other local committee members.
26th October 2014: The Honorable Kalon visited STS school, Dekyiling where he was welcomed by headmistress, staff and the students. The school was opened though it was Sunday and followed its routine activities. In the morning assembly, the Education Kalon addressed the students. Thereafter, he visited all the classes and interacted with students and the teachers. He also had informal meeting with the teachers separately. In the evening, he addressed the Tibetan people in Dekyiling on the issues like role of parents in the education of children, preservation of Tibetan language, population growth, parental counseling, the year of gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and CTA’s policy on middle way approach.
27th October, 2014: Kalon Mr. Ngodup Tsering visited TCV Selakui where he observed the science exhibition carried out by the students. He also interacted with the students and teachers as well. He talked to the students and had separate informal meeting with the teachers. Honorable Kalon praised students who are well versed in English language and encouraged them to keep it up. At the same time they were advised to keep one’s mother tongue intact. Kalon also visited Vocational Training Center, Selakui where he was impressed to see the students undergoing different vocational trainings which make them self-sustainable in their future life. In the afternoon, he visited CST Herbertpur and met the students and the teachers separately. He explained the Indian teachers about the kindness of the Government of India and its people to Tibetan people. He expressed the gratitude to them.
28th October, 2014: Education Kalon visited to the STS Paonta Sahib and addressed the students and the teachers in separate groups. He inspected classes and interacted with the students and the teachers. In the afternoon, he visited STS Puruwala and met the students and teachers.
While addressing to the students and the teachers, the Education Kalon stressed on the importance of education, preservation of Tibetan language, universal ethics and population growth in our community which affects the enrollment of students in Tibetan schools. He advised the students to ask more questions to the teachers so that the teachers come to the class well prepared. The students were also told to set higher aims in their lives. He spoke on the significance and implementation of Basic Education Policy (BEP) for Tibetans in Exile and various programs of DoE like Teacher Professional Development (TPD) and Early Grade Reading (EGR) to improve the professional skill of teachers and the reading skill of early grade students respectively.
29th October 2014: Education Kalon attended the conference on SPARKE organized by SOIR-IM at Songtsen Library, near Dekyiling. As the chief guest of the conference, Kalon gave the key note address. He talked about the corporal punishment practiced in the schools and measures to address it. Hespoke on the universal ethics, role of teachers and students to develop kindness and compassion in school education. Moreover, he expressed the gratitude to the SOIR-IM for its continuous support towards the development of Tibetan community in India.
