DHARAMSHALA: The Department of Education, CTA is organising an Early Grade Reading (EGR) workshop for second batch of aspirant primary school teachers at the Sarah Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies, Dharamshala from 7 – 11 May 2016.
A total of 19 on-training teachers are participating in the workshop. The resource person of the workshop is Ms Sonam Gangsang, English teacher at Sambhota Kalaishpura, Bylakuppe.
Mr Tsering Samdup, head of the Traditional Education section, Department of Education addressed the participants during the inaugural session and briefed them about the very purpose of the Early Grade Reading workshop and role of teachers in providing quality education to Tibetan children.
He explained the education department’s efforts to improve reading among children through its various programs including the early grade reading series project. “Under this project, around 80 children’s story books have been translated and published in Tibetan,” he said.
The Department of Education has been organising “Early Grade Reading Workshops” since 2014 in its efforts to improve early graders’ academic learning, language development, and intellectual development. Till date above 200 primary teachers have received EGR workshop.
This workshop is jointly funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), Canada.
