Computer Teaching Workshop Concludes Successfully

The Department of Education, CTA successfully concluded the weeklong Intensive workshop on Computer Teaching at Sarah College of Higher Tibetan Studies for teachers on 16 June 2023. At the closing program, Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, Head of Academic Section, DoE offered thank you and ceremonial scarf to all the resource persons followed by the distribution of certificates and scarf to all the participants. Aimed at empowering teachers with the knowledge and skills required for effective computer teaching at the primary and middle levels, this workshop was a response to the needs and feedback received from various STSS schools.

A total of 19 teachers from 18 STSS schools participated in the workshop, which focused on introducing fundamental computer concepts, innovative teaching methodologies, and practical programming skills. The goal was to establish a unified teaching roadmap for grades four to eight across all schools under the Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society. The participants were engaged in a wide range of activities, including keynote sessions, interactive presentations, hands-on workshops, collaborative discussions, and resource sharing.

The workshop was mainly facilitated by three resource persons; Mr. Tsewang Norbu, IT Admin of STSS Head Office, Mr. Dhondup, Computer Instructor of STS Herbertpur, and Mr. Jangchup Dorjee, Computer Instructor of STS Miao. The morning sessions of the workshop emphasized practical teaching methodologies and the computer curriculum for different grade levels, such as basic, intermediate, and advanced. The facilitators conducted interactive presentations, enabling participants to actively participate in discussions and seek clarification. Practical workshops provided valuable hands-on experience in programming, utilizing platforms like Scratch, and fostering the development of innovative teaching strategies.

In the afternoon sessions, various other resource persons gave presentations and shared their expertise on different topics. These included sessions on Tibetan terminology by Mr. Ogyen Tenzin, DoE, Integration of ICT in Education by Ms. Tenzin Nagdon, Deputy Director of STSS, Computer maintenance and troubleshooting by Mr. Tenzin Tsering, TCRC, and Cyber Security by Ms. Vibha Puri, Mahattattva.

The Computer Teaching Workshop, funded by USAID, successfully achieved its objectives of equipping educators with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources for effective computer teaching. The knowledge and experiences gained from the workshop will empower educators to deliver engaging and impactful computer education to their students, preparing them for the digital age.
