Department of Education Congratulates Tibetan Girl on Gold Medal Win for Outstanding Performance in MSc Genetics at Mysore University

Dharamshala: The Department of Education proudly announces the remarkable accomplishments of Tsewang Tsamchoe, one of the department’s esteemed scholarship recipients. She was honoured with three prestigious gold medals for her outstanding performance in MSc Genetics at the University of Mysore. These distinguished medals bear the names of eminent professors from the Genetics Department, namely Prof. N.B. Ramachandra, Prof. H.A. Ranganath, and Dr. S.N. Hedge. The grand award ceremony took place during the 103rd annual convocation of the University of Mysore on October 18, 2023.

Tsewang hails from Dhondhenling Tibetan Settlement, Kollegal. In her own words, “As a refugee, I have always risen above adversity, recognising the invaluable educational opportunities available to us without hindrance. We must seize these opportunities with determination. It’s crucial to maintain a burning passion for learning, unwavering self-confidence, and the resolve to never give up. Even when confronted with daunting concepts or uncertainties, I hold fast to the belief that there’s no such thing as a foolish question. This commitment allows us to keep our dreams alive and work towards a brighter future.”

Tsewang’s educational journey began at Sambhota Tibetan School Kollegal, where she completed her schooling from the first to the tenth grade. She continued her studies from the eleventh to twelfth grade at the Central School for Tibetans Mundgod, where she secured the first position in the 2016 batch. Subsequently, she pursued her BSc. BEd from 2016 to 2020 at the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, under the reserved seat allocated by the Department of Education, provided by the Government of India. She later embarked on her MSc. Genetics at the University of Mysore, Department of Genetics and Genomics, with financial support from the TSSR and Aide à l’Enfance Tibétaine (AET), France. She extends her sincere gratitude for their support throughout her educational journey.

Tsewang attributes her remarkable success to a profound passion for her chosen field, combined with unwavering dedication, persistent hard work, and an insatiable curiosity for learning. She remarked, “Surrounding myself with a supportive network of individuals who inspire and challenge me also played a vital role in my pursuit of success.”

In acknowledgment of the influential figures in her life, Tsewang expressed her deep appreciation: “I also want to express my deep appreciation to my hardworking parents, whose profound love and unwavering dedication have been a guiding light in my life. Their sacrifices and tireless efforts have not only opened doors to education but have also instilled in me the values of perseverance and determination. To my siblings, you have been unwavering pillars of support since the very beginning. Your encouragement and belief in me have been a constant source of motivation, and I cherish the bond we share as a source of strength in my journey. My heartfelt thanks especially to my Mentor, Dr. Koushik, and guide, Prof. Ramachandra, and our Genetics Department teachers, who have displayed remarkable patience in addressing my doubts and consistently supported me throughout my educational journey. I am deeply grateful to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), and the Indian government for affording us the privilege of pursuing education, akin to any Indian citizen. These opportunities have served as a profound wellspring of inspiration for me.”

The Department of Education, CTA, extended its warmest congratulations to Tsewang Tsamchoe for her extraordinary achievement and for serving as an inspiration to other Tibetan youths while wishing her a bright and prosperous future ahead.
