
Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration, conducted a six-day meeting in Dharamshala from 29 July to 3 August 2025 to finalise Tibetan language textbooks for classes 5 to 8 of the Tibetan Language and Cultural Schools (also called Tibetan weekend schools).
The Textbook Reviewing Committee of the DoE analysed and reviewed the textbooks in accordance with suggestions received from the administrators and educators of the Tibetan Language and Cultural Schools. The committee discussed each lesson of the drafted textbooks in detail and made additions and deletions where necessary.
The members of the committee included Head of the Textbook Section and Joint Secretary Gedun Donyoe, Under Secretary Tenzin Pal, and Section Officer Ngawang Tenzin from the DoE. Other members were teachers and staff from different institutions, namely TCV Tibetan language mentor Mingchung, Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School language teacher Lobsang Tsering, and former Tibetan language instructors from Esukhia and online Tibetan language tutors Tsering Yangzom Osho, Nyima Bhuti, and Jigme Thinley.
The final syllabus draft prepared for teaching 5th to 8th standard, as approved by the committee, will be published and distributed to all Tibetan Language and Cultural Schools in Western countries. This textbook finalisation meeting was funded by the DANIDA organisation.
