Department of Education Hosts Workshop on Remedial Teaching for Specific Learning Disabilities in Bylakuppe

Bylakuppe: The Department of Education, CTA, organised a workshop on the ‘Fundamentals of Remedial Teaching for Specific Learning Disabilities’ at Sakya Guest House, Bylakuppe, from 14 to 19 July 2025. The workshop was funded by PRM and attended by 30 teachers from schools in the South Zone.

Inclusive education is an inalienable part of school education, and the Department of Education (DoE) places strong emphasis on its implementation in Tibetan schools. To support this, the Department has been assisting children with learning difficulties through various outreach programs, training sessions, and workshops. The objective of this particular workshop was to:

  • Strengthen teachers’ professional skills in remedial teaching,
  • Assist children in overcoming learning difficulties and integrating into mainstream education, and
  • Equip primary teachers with an understanding of key sub-skills in:
    • Reading
    • Comprehension
    • Spelling
    • Writing
    • Math
    • Multiple intelligences

These sub-skills are crucial for identifying the areas where children with learning disabilities often face challenges.

The Department of Education has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supporting children with diverse needs through various outreach initiatives, awareness programs, and teacher training. This workshop was a significant step in that direction, empowering teachers with the skills and resources necessary to create a more inclusive learning environment. Participants were provided with a comprehensive teaching handbook and an identification checklist to help them identify students with learning difficulties and develop targeted support plans.

The resource persons for the workshop were from the Madras Dyslexia Association (MDA), a renowned non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness and providing remedial training for educators. The methodologies introduced during the workshop can be effectively integrated into regular classroom teaching, benefiting not only students with learning disabilities but also the entire student body. By adopting these inclusive practices, teachers can create a more supportive and engaging learning environment that addresses the diverse needs of all learners.
