Department of Education Organises a Leadership Programme for Tibetan Students in Dehradun

Dharamshala: The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), organised a Leadership Programme at TCV Selakui from 22 to 26 September 2025 for students of classes VII to IX. A total of 178 students from TCV Selakui, STS Herbertpur, and THF Rajpur participated, accompanied by their counsellors and teacher escorts.

The programme aimed to help students understand that leadership is not just about leading others, but about developing a spirit of inquiry, responsibility, and community values. Through a club-based system, students explored various areas—Innovation, Agriculture & Microgreens, Tourism & Culture, Sports, Entrepreneurship, Creative Writing, Music, and Art & Craft—allowing them to lead, manage, and collaborate creatively.

The opening ceremony was graced by Tsultrim Kelsang, Principal of the TCV Selakui, as Chief Guest, along with Headmaster. Jamyang Wangyal, Head of the Counselling Section, welcomed the guests and participants and highlighted the programme’s purpose for middle school students. The Chief Guest appreciated the Department’s initiative and encouraged students to participate actively.

Throughout the six days, students engaged in interactive, hands-on activities designed to build teamwork, confidence, and innovation. Following the programme, each school will form clubs based on students’ interests, with students as leaders, counsellors as facilitators, and teachers as mentors.

The closing ceremony was attended by Sonam Palkey, Principal of STS Herbertpur, as Chief Guest, and Gyaltsen Chogleg, Principal of THF Rajpur, as Guest of Honour. Principal Sonam Palkey emphasised that such programmes are vital for developing confidence and creativity among students and align well with the Basic Education Policy (BEP) and the National Education Policy (NEP), which focus on skill-based learning.

Tenzin Choedhen, Counsellor, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all resource persons, the host school, and participants.

The workshop was facilitated by Adithya Subramanian, CEO & Founder of KAARMIC Education & AdventureX, along with his team.

The programme is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and is part of a series of similar leadership workshops held at STS Mundgod, TDL Bylakuppe, TCV Gopalpur, TCV Ladakh, STS Miao, THF and STS Mussoorie.
