Dharamshala: The Counselling Section of the Department of Education organised a comprehensive four-day workshop on “Fundamental Remedial Teaching Strategies for Children with Learning Difficulties” from 20 to 23 September 2026 at Peace Home, Upper TCV. The primary objective of this intensive training programme was to equip educators with practical, evidence-based tools to support diverse learners in their classrooms.
A total of 27 teachers representing the Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS), Tibetan Children’s Villages (TCV), and Tibetan Homes School (THS) actively participated and successfully completed the training.
The sessions were facilitated by the Madras Dyslexia Association (MDA), a non-profit service organisation with over two decades of expertise in providing direct remedial support, raising community awareness, helping schools establish dedicated resource rooms, and conducting rigorous teacher training programmes. Over the course of four days, four expert trainers from MDA led distinct modules covering remedial intervention strategies for reading, spelling, writing, and mathematics. The curriculum focused on developing phonetic awareness and reading comprehension, teaching structured spelling rules, enhancing fine motor control for writing, and utilising multi-sensory approaches to bridge gaps in foundational mathematics.
In an effort to bridge the gap between home and school environments, the workshop also hosted a dedicated session featuring parents of children with special needs. These parents shared their personal journeys, openly discussing their emotional phases of understanding and acceptance alongside the daily challenges they face, providing teachers with invaluable insights for building empathetic teacher-parent collaborations.
The workshop concluded on 23 September 2026 with the presence of the Education Director of TCV. In the closing remarks, the Director highlighted the profound roles and responsibilities of teachers in cultivating inclusive classrooms and strongly urged the participants to integrate the newly acquired remedial strategies into their daily lesson plans to ensure that all children receive adequate support.
