Department of Education Organises School Leadership Workshop

Dharamshala: The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, is organising a four-day School Leadership Workshop for Principals and Headteachers from 19 to 22 August 2025 at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society. A total of 16 school heads are participating in the workshop, including 5 from TCV schools and 11 from STSS schools. The sessions are being facilitated by Mohd Amzad and Apoorva Namdev from Alokit.

The opening ceremony was attended by Tenzin Dorjee, Head of the Academic Section, DoE, the two trainers, Kalsang Wangdu, Education Program Coordinator of Alinea International, along with DoE staff members and participants. On behalf of the Department, Dorjee welcomed the trainers and participants to the workshop. In his address, he highlighted the Department’s initiatives over the past six years to strengthen school leadership, including leadership training for school heads, follow-up support and training, implementation of School Improvement Plans, and efforts to improve the working environment of school leaders. He further emphasised that effective school leadership is one of the two most crucial factors influencing student learning outcomes.

Dorjee also reminded participants that every year the Department invests significant funding in education, and while schools are striving to improve student learning, much more effort is needed to enhance the overall quality of education. He urged the participants to work harder than ever, particularly in implementing the learnings from this workshop when they return to their respective schools.

The training will focus on strengthening the key roles and responsibilities of school heads, including drafting and implementing School Improvement Plans, managing time effectively, planning and facilitating staff meetings, conducting classroom observations, providing constructive feedback, creating a positive school culture, and leading through challenges. The sessions are designed to be interactive, with group activities, discussions, self-reflection, and Q&A to encourage practical learning and peer exchange.

As part of the program, the participants will also visit Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School to gain firsthand experience in conducting school observations and to better understand the practical aspects of school leaders’ roles in real classroom and school settings.

The School Leadership Workshop is funded by Global Affairs Canada through Alinea International.
