Department of Education Organises Three Day Basic Education Policy & National Education Policy Workshop for Teachers

Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration, commenced a three-day workshop for teachers on the Basic Education Policy (BEP) for Tibetans in Exile and the National Education Policy (NEP) at the Administrative Training Centre, Dharamsala, from 12 to 14 August 2025.

A total of 33 teachers from 10 schools — comprising five Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) schools and five Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS) schools — are participating. The workshop is jointly facilitated by Dr Kalsang Wangdu, Education Specialist, and Tenzin Dorjee, Head of Academic Section, DoE.

The inaugural program began at 9:00 AM with the facilitators, DoE staff, and participants in attendance. In his opening address,  Tenzin Dorjee highlighted the importance of formulating the BEP and the DoE’s initiatives in its implementation. These include developing curriculum, syllabus, and textbooks aligned with BEP, organising teacher training and workshops, and raising public awareness through talks. He reiterated the significance of such policy-oriented workshops as part of continuous professional development for teachers.

Over the past two and a half years, the DoE has conducted three cluster-based BEP and NEP workshops — in Darjeeling (February 2023), Bylakuppe (January 2024), and Mundgod (June 2024) — reaching 120 teachers from 23 schools.

Following his remarks, Tenzin Dorjee introduced Dr Kalsang Wangdu and also outlined the workshop’s objectives and content to the participants, after which each participant gave a self-introduction.

Over the next three days, the sessions will cover key themes from BEP 2004 and NEP 2020, including the meaning and goals of education, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), classroom teaching and learning, assessment practices, language policy, and teacher professional development. The workshop facilitators will incorporate group activities, discussions, and reflections to ensure active participant engagement.

The workshop is generously funded by DANIDA.
