Education Department Awards 312 Scholarships for Under-graduate level Courses in 2016 Academic Session

Dharamsala, June 23: The Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration, has held the Scholarship Committee meeting on June 21, 2016 to select candidates for various professional and general courses at Under-graduate level, Diploma and Vocationnal courses for the 2016 academic session. For 348 scholarship seats alloted and announced earlier by DoE for the Under-graduate level courses only, 600 applications were received from fresh school graduate students. As per the Sherig Scholarship rule and regulation, 312 fresh students were awarded the scholarships on the merit basis and among them 34 were selected under Nyamthak (destitute) category.

The Department of Education had announced 639 schorships for pursuing various courses of under-graduate, diploma, vocational, post-graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D during 2016 academic session. Among them 105 scholarships are being awarded by the Gadhen Phodrang under The Dalai Lama Trust Scholarship and 20 from Government of India through Central Tibetan Schools Administration based in New Delhi.

The Department of Education would like to express our deep felt gratitude to all the donors and sponsors, particularly the Gadhen Phodrang Trust, GoI, USAID, and several NGOs and individuals, who have provided the generous financial assistance, which enabled hundreds of deserving and needy students to pursue their dreams of higher education. Starting this year, DoE Scholarship committe has decided to increase the scholarship by five thousand Rupees each year to all students, new and old, in the wake of ever increasing cost in the country.

The Sherig Scholarship Committe members consists of head of all Sections of DoE, under the chair of Education Kalon. This year Dr. Reenu Pant, Education Officer at new Delhi-based Central Tibetan Schools Administration, attended the meeting and supervised selection of 20 students for the award of CTSA merit scholarship.

The selection for scholarship award for Master's degreee and beyond courses will be made sometime in September this year. We wish our scholarship receipents a fruitful and meaningful year ahead.
