Dharamsala: Counseling College students is one of the activities under the Department of Education, CTA Outreach Counseling Program. This activity has been in place since 2008.
Department of Education staff, Ms. Donkar Wangmo (Chief Counselor) & Ms. Pema Norkyi (Assistant Counselor) are conducting career counseling to Tibetan students studying in various colleges under Punjab University at Chandigarh and Tibetan students at Lovely Professional University (LPU)in Jalandhar from Sept 11 – 13, 2013.
In the course of the visit, the Counselors will update the students on some of the CTA policies & the latest developments at the Central Tibetan Administration. They will talk to the students on Importance of Pursuing Specializations in different Fields of Study; Career & Educational Planning after graduation; DOE Scholarship & its procedures; Character Education; Effective Study Strategies; Identity & Identity crisis; Central Tibetan Administration & staff recruitment procedure; Resume & How to Face Interview etc.
Two assessment tests titled, “Career Interest Inventory” & “Multiple Intelligences Test” (for adults over 16) will be conducted to the students followed by individual counseling.
The methods employed will be power-point presentation, group work, discussion, role play & interactive session etc.
The Counselors will also meet the student one on one for individual counseling & career planning wherever necessary.
In the past, the Department of Education had held workshop or counseling Talk to Tibetan students studying in major cities & towns where there are large numbers of Tibetan youths viz Baroda, Vijawada, Bangalore, Mysore, Pune, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jalandhar, Chennai, Shimla & Dehra Dun etc.
Similar activities are conducted to Tibetan students studying in colleges located in Southern India by Department’s branch Guidance & Counseling Cell located at Mundgod.
