DHARAMSHALA: The Department of Education organized a workshop on National Geographic Explorer Programme at College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah on June 22 and 23. The two-day workshop was attended by 28 Science and English teachers from 5 Tibetan schools viz., TCV Suja, TCV Chauntra, STS Paonta Sahib, STS Chauntra and Movon Petoen Tsuglak School. The training programme emphasised on the implementation of year-round National Geographic Explorer Progamme in their respective schools.

 Honorable Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay was the chief guest for the inaugural function. In his inaugural address, he mentioned that education for Tibetan children serves a greater purpose than just preparing them for their careers. He emphasized the need to provide quality education to nurture our children who are ‘Future Seeds of Tibet’.

The two Resource Persons for the workshop, Ms. Lata Vasvani and Ms. Poova Kasinathan were invited from Mumbai and Singapore respectively to train the teachers. The workshop participants were taught how to use the National Geographic teaching materials such as children’s magazines and various online teaching resources in their classrooms.

National Geographic Explorer (NGX) Programme is an innovative school-based Science, Environmental Science and English learning programme that will start from July 2013.  It is also a holistic and integrated programme with a broader mission to increase global understanding and promote conservation of our planet through exploration research and education.

NGX Programme has benefitted more than 2 million children across 13 countries in terms of improving children’s proficiency in English and knowledge in Science. The programme uses high-quality 21st century materials for teaching recognized as amongst the best for its content accuracy and research.
