Inclusive Education Workshops Conducted Across North East Schools

Dharamshala: A team from the Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration, led by Special Educator Tenzin Paldon and Speech Pathologist Tenzin Kalden, successfully conducted a series of school visits and workshops across Tibetan schools in North East India from 14 to 27 April 2026.

The initiative aimed to address the growing number of children requiring additional educational support with a strong focus on early identification and intervention. The DoE team visited four schools STS Tezu, STS Miao, STS Shillong, and STS Tenzingaon where they assessed students with diverse learning needs including speech and language difficulties.

During the visit, the team organised workshops for teachers emphasising the importance of early identification of learning challenges and practical strategies to support children with speech and language issues in the classroom. The sessions highlighted inclusive teaching practices and the role of educators in fostering a supportive learning environment.

Recognising that a child’s development extends beyond the classroom so separate workshops were also held for parents. These sessions focused on mindful parenting, understanding child growth and development, and raising awareness about neurodivergence and speech-language difficulties. Parents were encouraged to actively participate in their children’s learning journey, reinforcing the idea that they are a child’s first and most influential teachers.

Officials stressed that collaboration between schools and families is essential to ensure the holistic development of children with special needs. The workshops received positive feedback from both educators and parents marking a significant step toward strengthening inclusive education.

This initiative is made possible through the generous support by DANIDA.
