Scholarship Awareness and Monitoring Program in Jalandhar, Chandigarh, and Dehradun

Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DoE), CTA, has successfully wrapped up its Scholarship Awareness and Monitoring Program for Tibetan students in the North Zone, held from 26 to 29 November 2024.

This initiative aims to provide students with essential information about DoE scholarship programs while also monitoring and evaluating the ongoing programs to identify areas for future development.

Led by Sonam Sangmo, Head of the Scholarship and Sponsorship Section, and accompanied by Sonam Choedon, the program targeted key cities—Jalandhar, Chandigarh, and Dehradun—as well as the Tibetan Private Industrial Training Institute (ITI). These areas were chosen as the focus of the program as a significant number of Tibetan students pursue higher education in these areas.

The sessions were designed to directly engage Tibetan college students, providing insights into the different scholarship programs offered by the DoE, including eligibility criteria, application processes, and benefits. The program aims to empower students with knowledge critical to achieving their academic aspirations.

The initiative resonated deeply with the students. Tenzin Choerab, a BCA student at Lovely Professional University, shared, “With the help of DoE, many of my peers can pursue their education despite financial challenges.” Similarly, Kunsang Lhamo, pursuing an MA at Panjab University Chandigarh, remarked, “It’s informative for students like us who spend most of our time outside Tibetan communities.”

The program’s success was bolstered by support from local organizations, including the Tibetan Nehru Memorial Foundation School, Tibetan Private ITI, Sangye Menla Trust, members of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, and several individuals.

This awareness initiative, launched last year with a focus on Tibetan students studying in South India, continued its second leg in North Zone cities this November 2024. It underscores the DoE’s unwavering commitment to fostering educational opportunities for Tibetan students. By directly engaging with students, the department aims to ensure that no deserving individual is left uninformed or unsupported in their academic pursuits.
