Secretary Jigme Namgyal Attends an Event at Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute as its Chief Guest

Dharamshala: Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute (Men-tsee-khang) held a brief closing ceremony on 26 May 2025 for a series of workshops organised for the outgoing 22nd batch of medical students and the 12th batch of Astro-science students. Secretary Jigme Namgyal of the Department of Education, CTA, attended the event as its chief guest.

The ceremony was also attended by the institute’s Director Thupten Tsering, Cultural Director Dr Tsering Norbu, General Secretary, departmental secretaries, as well as workshop facilitators and participants.

During the event, certificates were conferred to the outgoing students and workshop trainers by the distinguished guests.

In his address, Secretary Jigme Namgyal highlighted that throughout the 109 years since its establishment, the ancient Tibetan systems of medicine, astronomy, and astrology have flourished beyond Tibet’s borders, thanks to the compassionate and altruistic nature of Tibetan sMenpas and practitioners. He conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to all practitioners who have upheld this rich tradition, both in the past and present.

The Secretary encouraged attendees to continue their efforts in educating the public about healthy living, good nutrition, and the promotion of preventive measures and medical treatment.

The workshops included a month-long acupuncture training and a 45-day Sowa-Rigpa Mild Therapy workshop for the medical students. Simultaneously, the Astro-science students participated in a practical application workshop on Tibetan Astro-science. These sessions were led by Dr Tenzin Thaye, Dr Jigme Gendun, and Tenzin Loden (TASP), respectively.
