LADAKH: The Department of Education organised a workshop on Basic Education Policy (BEP) for the primary teachers of SOS TCV schools in Ladakh from 2-7 July. Seventy-five teachers from four schools in Leh region and three schools in Jhangthang region participated in the workshop.
Former Kalon Tripa and renowned academician, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, who was the chief resource person, spoke on key aspects of BEP such as its significance, the meaning and purpose of education. He also clarified doubts regarding the education policy.
The other resource persons, including two education officers of the education department, covered topics such as methodologies of teaching Tibetan, English, science, mathematics, and performing arts through Tibetan opera.
The settlement officer was invited as chief guest and participants were presented certificates on the closing ceremony on 7 July.
During his Ladakh visit, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, spoke at the annual Bakula Rinpoche memorial special lecture programme at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies and addressed a gathering at Leh Jhokhang on ‘Basic Buddhist Philosophy’ on 20 and 30 June respectively. He inaugurated a conference on Indian education system at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies on 1 July. He gave a talk on Middle Way Policy to the Tibetan community the next at the request of Tibetan Local Assembly, and a teaching on introductory Buddhism to youth on 2 and 3 July respectively.
