University of Innsbruck 2025 Scholarship

 
The Department of Education (DoE), Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), is pleased to announce a fellowship opportunity offered by the University of Innsbruck, Austria. This scholarship is offered to one eligible Tibetan refugee student to pursue a three-year Ph.D. program, commencing on October 1, 2025. Interested applicants must submit all required documents online by June 15, 2025

Eligibility and Required Documents:

  1. The applicant must be Tibetan refugee holding a Green Book (GB) with contributions made until 2024. Form A must be duly filled and attested by the local Tibetan Settlement Officer.
  2. The applicant must possess a valid Registration Certificate (RC) and a valid Certificate of Identity (COI)/Identity Certificate (IC).
  3. Applicant must hold a regular master’s degree in any field from a recognized Indian university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  4. Applicants must not exceed 40 years of age as of January 1, 2025.
  5. Applicant who has completed or is currently enrolled in Ph.D. program is not eligible.
  6. Additional documents to be uploaded as a single PDF:
    • A 400-500 word essay explaining the motivation for applying for this scholarship.
    • A resume.
    • No Objection Certificate (only for currently employed applicants).

Selection Procedure:

  • A preliminary interview will be conducted by the DoE, and the top six candidates will be ranked based on interview scores.
  • No interview will be held for fewer than six applicants, and the ranking will be based on master’s program scores.
  • The University of Innsbruck (UIBK) will select the final candidate from up to six applicants nominated by the Department of Education, CTA.

Follow Up:

UIBK will email the top-ranked candidate with:

  1. A link for the online application.
  2. A list of required documents:
    • Academic degrees (Bachelor and Master) (Bachelor and Master).
    • Academic transcripts.
    • Curriculum vitae.
    • Valid travel document.
    • Passport photo.
    • Language Certificate (English or German).
    • Dissertation concept (max. 4000 characters, in German or English).
  3. Required content: research question/thesis, approach, selected references (max. 5 literature references) and desired UIBK supervisor(s). Please note that approval of the topic or supervisor is not guaranteed. The dissertation concept does not replace the dissertation agreement with exposé required after admission.
  4. Documents in languages other than German or English must be translated, in some cases the documents must be properly legalized: e.g., apostille for India/China, double certification for Nepal/Sri Lanka). Once the applicant uploads all required documents, the UIBK Admission Office and the relevant faculty will review the application within approximately 4 weeks. If all requirements are met, the Admission Office will contact the applicant.

The applicant’s data will then be sent to OeAD/ Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalization for further processing. Final enrolment occurs in person at the UIBK Admission Office once the applicant arrives in Innsbruck.

* If the first-ranked candidate’s application is incomplete, the process will continue with the next ranked candidate.

 

Scholarship Benefits:

  1. Monthly stipend of €1,250 to cover boarding and lodging.
  2. Full coverage of tuition fees (€726.72 per semester) for six semesters.
  3. Enrollment as a regular student at the University of Innsbruck.
  4. Access to the university library and computer facilities.
  5. Full access to all courses, seminars, and excursions related to the Ph.D. program.
  6. Reimbursement of travel expenses for study purposes and material resources, as applicable.
  7. Assistance in finding accommodation and student visa applications.
