Dharamshala: The Department of Education organised a five-day workshop on ‘Enabling Students Leadership’ for the various Tibetan schools counsellors in India.
Held from 6th-10th August, the workshop was facilitated by Mr. Adithya Subramaniam, Director, Young Leader’s Initiative, KAARMIC EDUCATION, based in Hyderabad who introduced the innovative way of solving problems and tackling challenges using design thinking.
To enable student leadership, the resource person introduced the concept of a club system that is goal-oriented and practical. The Counsellors in the group brainstormed on different possible clubs in their schools and the merging of existing functional clubs. The main purpose of this workshop is to orient the School Counsellors as effective mentors or facilitators to provide opportunities and breach the achievement gaps through a viable and practical club system led by students themselves.
Mrs. Dolkar Wangmo, Chief counsellor of DoE thanked the trainers for facilitating a meaningful workshop for the school counsellors and likewise, thanked the participants for their active participation. She further reminded the responsibility of every stakeholder in the schools to work collaboratively in making every student a leader in his/her own way by creating new opportunities.
Some of the topics covered during the five days’ workshops include Design Thinking, Problem Identification, Problem statement discussion, Goal setting, Becoming a champion counsellor, Skills for Mentorship & Leadership building, Ambition & Skills, New age career skills, Inspiring a community, Student club system, and How to introduce clubs to students etc. Some of the methods used in the workshop includes lecture method, case studies, interactive discussion, group work & presentation.
The counsellors had assured to designing of possible clubs at their respective schools.
A total of 20 participants comprising of 5 male and 15 female counsellors from TCV, SLF (Nepal), THF & STSS participated in the workshop funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
