Dharamshala: The Department of Education (CTA) and the Palampur Science Centre (a unit of the National Council of Science Museums) have successfully concluded a five-day in-service science laboratory workshop aimed at enhancing hands-on learning in school science labs.
The workshop, which was held from September 16 to 20, involved 25 participants, including science teachers, lab in-charges, and assistants from 22 schools.
The program featured both practical and theoretical sessions, focusing on key topics such as laboratory management, equipment operation, and safety protocols. Participants included 14 representatives from 13 Sambhota Tibetan Schools, 8 from 7 Tibetan Children Village Schools, and 2 from Tibetan Homes Schools, alongside Chakdhar Bhum, the science textbook editor from the Department.
Attendees engaged in various hands-on activities, covering a wide range of subjects in physics, biology, and chemistry. Key experiments included the presentation of molarity, proper acid dilution processes, slide preparation, local flora differentiation, and the osmosis process. Participants also explored the process of electromagnetic induction and analyzedanalysing electrical resistance in circuits. And also engaged in light and optics activities. Additionally, they learned techniques for preparing teaching aids and simple maintenance of microscope.
At the closing ceremony, Tenzin Dorjee, head of the academic section, served as the chief guest and encouraged participants to take an active role in their professional development. Sh. Ram Swaroop, curator and project coordinator of the Palampur Science Centre, emphasised the importance of ongoing educational collaboration. Dorjee Wangdue, Science Education Officer of the Department of Education, expressed gratitude to the facilitators and participants for their dedication, highlighting the workshop’s success.
