Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DoE) of the Central Tibetan Administration organised its second book fair at the Sambhota Tibetan School Bylakuppe, Karnataka on 24 September 2022.
The book fair event was inaugurated with a welcome note by the DoE dealing staff Tenzin Samdup followed by an introductory speech by STSS Bylakuppe Principal, Dawa Tashi. Similarly, the other speakers at the event, namely Tenzin Pelmo (English language mentor at TCV) and Mingchung (Tibetan language mentor at TCV) talked on ‘Significance of Reading and Storytelling’ and ‘Parents’ role in children’s language development, respectively.
Apart from these, the book fair program funded by USAID also contains book exhibitions, free distribution, and the sale of various children’s books.
The main objectives of organising the talk series followed by the book fair were to create awareness about the significance of reading and storytelling to children of all ages and to encourage parents to buy and read more books to their children at home.
The day-long book fair was participated by the Education Department, Tibetan Translation and Research Institute, and Tibetan Children’s Village consisting of 140 students and 160 parents.
The event was successfully wrapped up with a vote of thanks from DoE staff Tsering Palzom.
