The Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration held a three-day meeting (15-18 March) to finalise the draft of the latest edition of the class 7 Social Science Textbook based on the Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in exile
In accordance with the principles of the Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in Exile in 2010, the Education Council of the Department of Education subsequently published and distributed Social Science textbooks in all the Tibetan schools in exile. And in continuation to the review of the class 6 Social Science textbook last year, this year, the revising committee held four days meeting to review the class 7 social science textbook.
The meeting was chaired by the Additional Secretary and former Social Science Editor, Sonam Sangpo, Education Council’s textbook section’s head, Gedun Dhonyoe and Social Science textbook editor Passang Tsering. The members of the committee include subject teacher representatives from schools (TCV Upper: Tenzin Wangchuk and Lhazom Tsering, TCV Suja: Ngawang Tsetan and Tashi Lhamo, Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School: Kunsang Dorji, STS Mundgod: Jampa Lhamo) former Social Science editor and the Director of Manjushri Educational Service Buddha Kyap and Tashi Tsomo from Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.
The new edition of the Class 6 Social Science textbook will be distributed to all Tibetan schools free of cost. Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) has sponsored this four-day meeting through CICED.
