Education Department conducted a 3-day meeting to review and finalise the Class VII Mathematics Workbook and Class IX Mathematics Textbook in Tibetan

Dharamsala: The Department of Education conducted a three-day meeting from 2 to 4 January 2023 at the conference hall of the Department of Education to review and finalise the draft of the first edition of the class VII Mathematics workbook and the remaining chapters of the class IX Mathematics textbook which was not finished in the previous meeting held in May 2022. The books are based on the Middle School curriculum formulated under the principles of the Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in Exile.

The director of the office of the Education Council commenced the meeting by highlighting the core objectives of making these books in Tibetan, and their implementation in the future. The members of the review meeting comprised Mr. Gedun Dhonyoe -the Education Council’s textbook section’s head, Mr. Dorje Wangdue -Science and Mathematics Education Officer, Ms. Tenzin Tsephel -Mathematics textbook editor, Mrs. Tsering Tsamchoe -STSS Math mentor, Mr. Sonam Gyalpo -TCV schools Math mentor, Mr. Pema Gyaltsen -STS Shimla Acting Principal/former Math teacher, Ms. Chime Yangtso (PGT) -TCV Selakui Math teacher altogether had carried out thorough discussion and made necessary alterations to Class VII workbook and the two chapters from the final draft of the Class IX Mathematics textbook. The committee has decided to hold another review meeting for the remaining chapters of the Class IX textbook in June this year.

Since 2014, in accordance with the Middle School curriculum formulated under the principles of the Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in exile, we have already published Mathematics textbooks and workbooks for the Primary and Middle schools till Class VI and this new edition of the Class VII Mathematics workbook will be published in February and will be distributed to all the Tibetan schools at free of cost.
