The 1st conference of the Education Council for Tibetans in Exile is held on 16th Aug, 2012 in the conference hall, Kashag, Gangkyi, Dharamsala. Kalon Tripa cum Eduation Kalon Dr. Lobsang Sangay and Education Secretary Ngoedup Tsering has chaired the conference and opening speech is addressed.
The Education Council for Tibetans in Exile is established in 2011 as per the principles inscribed in Basic Education Policy for Tibetans in Exile and is temporarily instituted as a section of Education department. The former Katri Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche is the chairman of the Education Council for Tibetans in Exile and is comprised by ten members. The main function of the Education Council for Tibetans in Exile is to advise the Tibetan administration in exile on education policy; to monitor implementation of the education policy; to grant recognition and approval to rules and regulations, curriculum, textbook composition and examination system of all Tibetan schools in exile after necessary inspection; to grant recognition to all schools including pre-primary schools after necessary inspection; to issue and renew teaching licenses; and to monitor and oversee educational affairs as a whole.
The agenda of this meeting is focused on how to direct appropriate basic education principles for Tibetans and how to devise a collective principles applicable to all the Tibetan schools and administration of schools in exile. As a result of long day debate, they made resolutions for the focused agenda.
