Dharamshala: The Department of Education is organising a five-day training for Tibetan schools’ counselors to equip them with the necessary skills and abilities to develop healthy habits and skills for adolescents.

Around 22 counselors from different Tibetan schools across India and Nepal are participating in the training facilitated by Dr Ali Khwaja, Col. Vinod Kumar and Purnima Ganesh from Bnajara Academy in Bangalore.

Education Secretary Jigme Namgyal inaugurated the training this morning and spoke to the gathering about the Department’s priorities in implementing various counseling initiatives in schools so as to promote holistic student development.

“The Education Department has set up counselling services at every school under its jurisdiction taking into account its intrinsic role in the education system”, said Secretary Namgyal. He emphasised the prioritisation of counseling on academic performance along with counseling on a career and advised the counselors to effectively imbibe and implement the exercises in schools.

Over the course of five-day training, the participants will be trained on early childhood development, behavioural changes in teenagers, and sex education etc. They will also learn skills-building exercises such as listening, empathy, patience, goal setting, and congruence etc.
